A Macclesfield-based customer with a beautiful established garden requested that I trim back their hedge, and tidy up some of their other shrubs and bushes.
Ideally, customers with well established leylandii should aim to have the tops trimmed towards the end of spring or during summer, when the tips are around 6 inches taller than the desired cut height.
For this customer, I took 6 inches from the top of the hedgerow, leaving a sharp line that provides a lovely contrast to the softer shaped shrubs, flowers and bushes throughout their garden, and complements the walls and sundial feature.
Leylandii hedges are ideal for getting a thick, healthy looking hedge quickly and maintaining greenery all year round — they’re fast growing and evergreen. Its dense growth is not only good for privacy, but also provides a home for birds and their nests.
